GETTING A HOLD OF STRESS
Almost every aspect of an Actors life involves high levels of stress, whether it is feeling nervous before an audition, feeling overwhelmed during rehearsals, or getting the dreaded stage fright.
This workshop moves through how we experience stress as performers, to developing a scientific understanding about what causes stress and how it physically effects our body. We then move on to physical practices that can limit our stress response and focus the mind, including; breathing, grounding, reframing the stressor, visualisation and setting boundaries to prevent future stress. Finally, we come together as a group to debrief and discuss what members found helpful, anything of interest that came up and I highlight resources available to members if the session affected them.
Course length: 1.5 hours
This course if for actors who experience stress or feel that stress effects their creative process.
You will collect a set of tools for your emotional toolbox that will allow you to focus on your creative training and work rather than be clouded by anxiety or panic. By understanding the biological process of stress, you will be able to recognise that the feeling of stress is not related to you, your performance or capabilities which helps you to move to a place of trust and confidence in yourself. Finally, by learning how to manage your stress you can focus on the joy and pleasure that training and the creative process brings you.
