our curriculum
This programme is designed to develop all the required skills of a young actor. No matter your experience to date, if you’re passionate, you will be offered the tools, techniques, and opportunities to grow your understanding and abilities – not to mention have a whole heap of fun along the way!
Each module is distinct and unique. You will be graded across the module and at an assessment point at the completion of the module. This will offer you the opportunity to get personal feedback and support as you progress. Each completed module comes with a certificate of recognition and the opportunity to showcase your progress on our platform.
Alongside the modules we’ll run connected masterclasses with industry professionals, masterclasses for parents offering support and answering questions, and challenges and on-demand tools that further these topics.
If you’re on a Basic membership, you’ll get one class a month on the module at hand. If you’re on a Plus membership, you’ll get one class a week and the full assessment package. If you’re on the Premium membership, you’ll get two classes a week and access to a whole range of expanded learning.
By offering this structure, we will be able ensure a steady growth and development in all areas for all attendees. We’re so excited for this next chapter in iampro as it expands our offering and offers a detailed follow through for all young performers.
Junior
Module 1 - Voice & Body
The actor’s voice & body is their instrument. What good is a brilliant idea if it can’t be expressed and shared effectively? This is why we start with opening our voices and learning to physicalise dynamically – so that our instrument is tuned and ready for a range of expression. We’ll look at accents, expression through text, speech chorusing & character voices along with physical characterisation, mime, psychological gesture, and habit construction. Improvisation will play a large part of developing each activity. We’ll get to know each other and stretch our expressive limits as a team, making us ready for the characters that await…
Module 2 - Play to performance
So, you’re given a script – what do you do? How do you identify and realise all the things it’s asking of you? Turns out there’s many ways of approaching this task – and that’s what this module is all about. Each week you’ll work on a different acting technique or style of script analysis. Scenes will rotate too – offering you the chance to reapply your favourite tools. The idea is, that by the end you’ll have a favourite scene, a scene partner and a series of tools you’ve used to make that scene ready for our audience.
Module 3 - Masterclass months
During the summer break, students will be able to access a series of masterclasses and one-off sessions designed to broaden their influence, thinking and tools. An extra array of challenges will be set to allow those who wish to use their summer break some awesome opportunities to create content that can be showcased on the platform.
This is an open module designed to be less structured so that students can attend freely or miss sessions over their summer break. Assessments and feedback will be informal and by the class.
Module 4 - Working on camera
Are you ready for the close up? In this module we’ll look at the specific requirements of working on film and how to best present your characters so that the camera loves them. We’ll master self-taping, screen testing and the zoom call back, then we’ll also look at filmmaking more broadly to better understand our piece within it. We’ll make micro-short films and screen them in a small festival to close out our term.
NB – This module will require attendees to have two devices for use in the class. One to access the lesson on (laptop, computer, iPad etc) and one to film on. It is a bonus if a tripod can be sourced.
Module 5 - Creating characters
It’s time to tie it all together! This module will utilise all the skills established over the year and harness them in a project that involves creating content from characters designed in the class. We’ll begin improvising and build our characters from the ground up – eventually having them monologue or play scenes with each other that we’ll fully script and prepare for presentation. The idea will be to transform – inhabit someone else, someone born from your imagination.

Module 1 - Method & means
There is a dizzying number of different methods and schools of acting. This first module is designed to give students a taster of a few approaches to script work so that they can find the tools and methods that best suit them while developing a common language of work amongst the group. We’ll touch on Meisner, Adler, Strasberg, Chekov, Hagen and, of course, Stanislavski and more. We’ll apply these approaches to a series of scenes and present our findings in a showcase at the close of the module.
Module 2 - Playing theatre
This module builds on the foundations established in the previous. We will rehearse and present a showcase of scenes around a theme or common story – utilising tools of script analysis that’s common to most practitioners. Where module 1 focuses on the actors instrument, module 2 focuses on the play – how do you bring your skills to bear on the needs of the writing at hand? How do you collaborate to fully realise this in performance?
Module 3 - Masterclass months
During the summer break, students will be able to access a series of masterclasses and one-off sessions designed to broaden their influence, thinking and tools. An extra array of challenges will be set to allow those who wish to use their summer break some awesome opportunities to create content that can be showcased on the platform.
This is an open module designed to be less structured so that students can attend freely or miss sessions over their summer break. Assessments and feedback will be informal and by the class.
Module 4 - Working on camera
How do we focus the tools established to meet the needs of this performance medium? This module will cover self-taping technique, screen testing, zoom casting workshops, and fundamentally how to act within a close up so that the camera is drawn to your performance. We’ll then progress to making micro-short films – the intention of which is to help actors better understand the mechanics of film that operate around them and how best to contribute while also affording those interested the tools of directors and filmmakers. The module will conclude in a showing of work.
Module 5 - Project Development
At the close of the “Working on Camera” module, students will decide on whether they would like their final project for the year to be camera based or theatre based. If camera, we make a short film as one unit. If theatre, we devise a short play to perform. Either way, we take content from inception to execution. The final product will be between 10-20mins long and everyone will play a role. This module focuses on writing and creating content – a valuable skill in the industry that can allow a young actor to get seen. This project should tie together all the skills learnt throughout the year and pay off all the hard work.
